Daughter of Thomas Ireland and Sophia Waters. Roseanna was a survivor of the Sioux Indian Attack at Lake Shatek, MN. Her father was injured there, her mother and two sisters were killed in August 1862. Roseanna and her sister Ellen were among several people taken by the Sioux, but all were ransomed back by Teton Lakotas and Roseanne and Ellen returned to live with their father. Roseanne continued to live in Minnesota, working as a servant or maid. When her father died, she moved to Butte MT, about 1898. In 1903, Roseanna married Joseph Millerin Butte, and they moved to Missoula. He died 17 months later. In 1906, Roseanna married Samuel VanAlstine. In about 1915, he left, and Roseanna eventually tried to divorce him, but he was never found and served with the papers. Roseanna supported herself by working as a cook and waitress at the YMCA. When Rosanna died in 1936, she still did not have a divorce decree. She had no children.
