He resided in Baltimore County, Maryland prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on February 7, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a editor and/or reporter and also as Single, without dependents.

Richard was "Killed In Action" during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.
