Mary Alice Burch 76, of New Market, died Jan. 30,2011 at her home.

She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., the oldest of two children of John and Susan Kearney Hensley.

On the death of her Mother, the children were placed in foster care. Mary Alice was raised by a wonderful family in New Jersey, but lost touch with her brother.

She worked at Bell (AT&T) Laboratories as a para legal for 12 years and in management for 19 years.

Upon retiring, she went into real estate. Mary Alice moved to New Marker in 1993. She was involved in the Chmber of Commerece, Rotary, New Market Volunteer Fire Department (treasurer 2001-2002), and the Republican party and elected twice to the town council.

She is survived by family members (Doesn't specify how they are related).

A service will be Saturday, February 19 at 11a.m. at Valley Funeral Chapel, 14116 South Middle Road, Edinburg with Reverend Canon Dwight Brown officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Contributions can be sent to the New Market Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 245, New Market, Va. 22844 and the Shenandoah County Animal Shelter, 268 Landfill Road, Edinburg, Va. 22824.
