Civil War Union Army Officer. He was mustered in as the Quartermaster Sergeant for Company L, 1st New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry on September 9, 1861. His tenure in that duty lasted over a year, until he was promoted to 1st Sergeant of the Company on November 1, 1862. A few months later, on February 24, 1863, he received a commission of 2nd Lieutenant, and was transferred to Company B, filling the vacancy caused by the promotion of Lieutenant John Hobensack. Almost a year later he received another promotion, this time to 1st Lieutenant, and was transferred back to Company L. He served with the companies until he was killed in action at the May 28, 1864 Battle of Hawes' Shop, Virginia.
