Joel B Bateman was a Schooner Captain of the Sallie B. Bateman built in 1861 to haul cotton, wood, and coal to ports around the world. It sank off the coast of Maine 12 April 1906 during a hurricane. Joel was married to Priscilla L Smith who is buried next to her husband and children. He was born in Bridgeton, NJ and lived his life in Philadelphia. His son Wheaton R Bateman was also a Schooner Captain of the Sallie B.
