Mrs. Phillips was a native of Davidson county and was the daughter of Joseph Pitts Binkley and Alice Moss Binkley. She was educated in the Davidson County public schools and later attended Peabody College. She taught school in Davidson County for more than 40 years, including 23 years teaching the sixth and seventh grades at Jer Baxter School before her retirement in 1949. She was married to Richard Swepton Phillips in 1907. A farmer, Mr. Phillips died in 1945. Mrs Phillips was a member of the Andrew Price Memorial Methodist Church in Donelson.
