Born at Little Springs, MS to William Franklin Jones and Iveanore Hunt. His paternal ancestors were from England and settled in Georgia.
Mr. Jones attended public school in Little Springs and entered Mississippi College at Clinton, graduating in 1902 with a B.S. degree. He studed law at the University of MS at Oxford taking his degree in 1903 and began his law practice in his home town that year.
He ran a law practice and had care of a plantation when he was elected to the House of Representatives for Franklin County on November 5, 1907.
He was married December 22, 1903, at Poteau, Indian Territory, to Marie Emma Webb, daughter of S. W. Webb and wife, Mattie of Poteau.
