Hiram Barnes was born in Susquehanna county, Pa., in 1822. Came to Colorado in 1850. Enlisted under the stars and stripes Feb 13, 1862, in company D, First Colorado Calvary volunteers, and was made corporal. Was in two engagements, Pigeon’s Ranch and Glorietta, New Mexico. He was in the army three years, six months and seven days, receiving his final discharge Sept. 20, 1865.
He lived here in Littleton a number of years, where his sister, Mrs. Belcher, resides but for the last four months has been in the Soldier’s Home at Monte Vista, Colo. He died at the home on Nov. 26, 1895, in the 73rd year of his age. Four sisters, a brother, a son and daughter are left to mourn his death.
All that was left of Uncle Hi Barnes, as a number here called him, was brought to Littleton on Thursday morning of last week. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Collom under the auspices of John C. Fremont Post, No. 83, G.A.R., at the Congregational church at 10:30 o’clock last Friday morning. Internment in Littleton cemetery.
