Thomas Merritt Major, sometimes known as "Merritt Major" was born in Rutherford, Tenn. and died in Murfreesboro, Tenn. He married Sarah Elizabeth Rogers (daughter of Asa Graves Rogers and Sarah Paulina Chandler) in 1867.
Thomas and Sarah had six children: Lizzie Bennett, Dr. James Rogers, William Hugh, Rosalie Thomas, Benjamin Asa and Lucille Reed.
William and Lizzie are known to be buried in Chandler Cemetery-Bettis Road, but are thought to be the only two children of this marriage buried there.
