HERKIMER, N.Y. - Norma Ann Menish of Herkimer, N.Y. and West Addison, Vt., passed away on Jan. 30, 2012, after a brief illness.

She was born on March 2, 1933, in Burlington, the daughter of the late Archie and Lila (Whittemore) Bodette.

She grew up and attended school in Vergennes and graduated from the University of Vermont. Norma taught school at Addison Central School for one year. She married Herbert E. Menish Jr. on June 25, 1955, a blessed union of 35 years, until his death on Feb. 9, 1994. Norma taught in the elementary schools of Herkimer for 20 years. She attended the First Baptist Church of Herkimer, where she had been a member and past president of the 100% Class and M and M Circle, a Sunday school teacher, and a choir member. At one time she had been a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. Norma was a member of the New York State Teachers' Retirement Association and formerly of Myrtle Chapter #148 Order of Eastern Star. Following retirement, Norma had been a volunteer at the Frank J. Basloe Library and a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels for the elderly program. She had a special appreciation and love for music and animals.

Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Terry and Rene Brodeur of Punta Gordo, Fla.; as well as many special cousins and friends in Vermont and Herkimer.

A graveside service at Lakeview Cemetery in West Addison will be held later this spring at a time to be announced. At her request, there will be no calling hours. Arrangements by Fenner Funeral Home, Inc. of Herkimer and Brown- McClay Funeral Home of Vergennes.
