BURLINGTON - Marlene A. Willette, 73, died at home with her family on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

She was born in Burlington on Dec 26, 1938, daughter of George Edmund and Grace E. (Bedard) Bessette.

She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Parish. She held many jobs over the years but her favorites were in the laboratory and as a patient attendant at Fletcher Allen Health Care.

Marlene married George J. Willette Sr. on June 13, 1959, and they had 45 years together before he passed away on July 22, 2004.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Barbara Ann and Gary Willette of Richmond, Laura Jean and Terry Croteau of Waterbury Center, George Joseph Willette Jr. and Nelida Willette, and Dana Christie Willette of Burlington; three grandsons, Colt and Carolyn Croteau of Berlin, Joseph Croteau and his fiancee, Melissa Schwartz of Champlain, N.Y., and George J. Willette III and his fiancee, Heidi Bearor, of Essex; greatgrandson, Richard Joseph Croteau of Epping, N.H.; and her great-granddaughters, Olivia Grace Croteau of Champlain, N.Y., and Kristen Beane of Richmond; honorary grandson, Jeremie Armstrong and his fiancee, Louise Morin, of Bolton; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grand- children; two sisters and their spouses, Edna and Ed Sumner of Burlington, Nancy and Ken Terrien of Middlebury; and her brother and sister-in-law, Philip and Carol Bessette of Essex Junction; her sisters-in-law and their spouses, Barbara and Francis Piraino of Pocono Summit, Pa., Madeline Davis of Burlington, Evelyn and Roger Barnes of Norfolk, Va., and Mae Willette of Burlington; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her brother, Paul; and sister, Shirley Jean.

Visiting hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, in the Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Home, 85 N. Winooski Ave., Burlington.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, in St. Joseph Co-Cathedral, with interment to follow in Lakeview Cemetery.
