Leo Maurus "Morrie" Baustert, 86 of St. Edward, NE passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at BryanLGH Medical Center in Lincoln, NE.

Morrie son of Joseph and Anna Hau Baustert, was born on February 8, 1925 in St. Edward, Nebraska.

Morrie attended grade school at Platte County District #83 and graduated from St. Edward High School in 1942. Following high school he farmed and also worked for a carnival out of Belgrade, NE.

In 1946 he entered the United States Army and served until an honorable discharge on October 11, 1947.

On November 20, 1950 Leo was united in marriage to Lorraine Krzycki at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Genoa.

They lived in Omaha, near Silver Creek and Genoa before moving to St. Edward in 1955. Over the years Morrie worked for Oliver Tractor in Omaha, farmed near Silver Creek, and was employed with Ed Carter Gravel Pit and Baustert Mobile Station. In 1955 when they moved to St. Edward he started a plumbing and well business until the late 1950's. He then was employed as a substitute mail carrier that later became a full-time position in the mid 1960's. In 1984, Morrie retired at the age of 59. Following retirement he continued to work part-time at DEKALB, Co-op Elevator, and hauled kit cars for Shell Valley of Platte Center, NE.

Morrie was a member of the St. Edward Catholic Church. He served there as a cantor and EME. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as a Fourth Degree Faithful Navigator, financial secretary and was key in starting the St. Edward Knights of Columbus Council.

He also served as a Chaplin of the American Legion Crosier Post #226, volunteered as a fireman for 40 years, belonged to the Rural Carriers Association, was a Scout Master, served on the St. Edward Public School Board District #17 and was very active on the Beaver Valley Senior Center Board.

Surviving Morrie are: children: Mike Baustert of St. Edward, Steve Baustert of San Diego, CA, Anne (Arnie) Wemhoff of Fullerton, NE, Mary (Doug) Allen of San Diego, CA, Jim (Theresa) Baustert of Lincoln, NE, Lorrie (Jack) DeLay of Liberty, MO, Morrie Baustert (Margaret Bartlett) of St. Edward, Paul (Carry) Baustert of Ravenna, NE; 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Mary Baustert of St. Edward, NE, Julia Shotkoski of Loup City, NE and Rita Shanahan of Portland OR.

Morrie was preceded in death by: parents, wife, Lorraine, brothers: Charles, Harold and John Baustert; one infant sister Vera Jane; one infant grandson baby boy Allen.

Interment was in the St. Edward Catholic Cemetery, St. Edward, NE.
