Gary D. Arndt, 69, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday evening, January 30, 2012 at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita.
Born on February 25, 1942 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Carl Lewis and Pearl (Sweet) Arndt. He was raised and received his education in Grenola, Kansas, graduating from Grenola High School in 1961. After high school he attended Emporia State University on a football scholarship. Gary then moved to St. Louis, Missouri where he went to work for Coca Cola. He later returned to Coffeyville, Kansas where he would work for Pepsi Cola. In 1968 Gary moved to Winfield, Kansas where he began work at Binney and Smith.
Gary was united in marriage to Betty Frieden on March 9, 1973, in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple made their home and raised their children in the Winfield area. Gary remained working for Binney and Smith for over 30 years until retiring in 1998. He later went to work for the City of Winfield.
He enjoyed reading, fishing, woodworking, and tinkering with just about anything he could. He especially loved spending time with his grandson, Jacob.
His family includes: His daughters: Melissa Webb and husband, James of Winfield; Jennifer Arndt and fiancé, Christopher Berry of Winfield; His grandchildren: Cedrick, Clayton, and Jacob Brooks; Kaleb and Ashley Albritton; and Brooke Webb; His brother: Vernon Hughes and wife, Jane of Coffeyville; His sisters: Sandy Ball and husband, Ray of Winfield; Ruth Depew and husband, Larry of Wichita; Donna Whetstine of Howard; and A host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Gary was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Mac Arndt, and an infant brother, Duane Arndt.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Inurnment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in Mr. Arndt's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
