The Denmark area of Russell County used to
be called Helms Mill. It was established
October 25, 1877, by Wm. R. Payne and
closed in 1883. The name was changed to
Denmark and William R. Payne was appointed
postmaster March 19, 1883. Ulysses S.
Haynes was appointed April 17, 1888.

Florence Antle became the acting postmaster on Feb. 28, 1928. The post office was discontinuted in 1929 and mail sent to Jamestown. Rural routes were started with
Almer Reese carrying the mail and Vernon
Antle as substitute. Vernon continued on
for about 50 years. He earned $5 per day on
some of his routes.

Also survived by daughter louise a. duff born 1/23/34.
