Paul Gaines McDaniel, Jr. 76 of Vidalia, Georgia died Monday, June 26, 2006 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. He was a native of Evans County, Georgia moving to Toombs County Georgia in 1949. He was the former owner-operator of the Sports Center in Vidalia for twenty two years. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, a member of the Smith Street Baptist Church and a member in good standing of the General Robert A. Toombs Camp #932 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melba Braddy McDaniel in 2003. Mr. McDaniel is survived by two sons, Mark McDaniel and wife, Melba of Vidalia and Gary McDaniel and wife, Edie of Statesboro; one daughter, Peggy Nolan and husband, Steve of Pembroke; four grandchildren, Leslie Bratton and Brittany Gooden both of Vidalia and Melissa and Michael McDaniel both of Statesboro; one great-grandchild, Arlie Gooden of Vidalia and one nephew. Visitation will be held 6-9 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. Graveside Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at Pinecrest Cemetery with Reverend Jimmy Smith and Reverend Joey Taylor officiating.
