James Thomas was a farmer by trade and he served in the Civil War along wih four of his sons,Elias,,Jesse,David and James C., Jesse was only one who did not come home. He was in: Co.F Volunteers Infantry Regular "Irwin Co. Cowboys". James and his wife Rutha Sumners raised 17 children and lived in and around the Tift, Worth county area in Georgia.
