Valentin Koffler, baptized Valentin Koffler, was the son of Melchior Koffler of Durmersheim, Baden and Anna Margaretha Opfermann of Heiligenstadt, a town now lying in Thüringia. As an adult, Valentine was a businessman and owned a butcher shop and several hotels in the McKees Rocks and Georgetown area. He later owned hotels in Armstrong, Westmoreland, and Centre Co., PA.

He appears to have suffered some sort of cardiac issue or stroke around 1922 that left him quite ill before he passed away in 1923. Just prior to his death, he was the proprietor of a hotel in Phillipsburg, Centre County, a property he purchased after selling the St. James Hotel in Rural Valley.
