When Milon H. Merritt was born on August 28, 1844, in Windsor, Ohio, his father, Robins, was 36 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 35. He married Alvira Anne Miller on February 18, 1864, in Allen, Indiana. He had four children by the time he was 29. He died on August 1, 1915, in Allen, Indiana, at the age of 70, and was buried in Harlan, Indiana.
As a Union Soldier and recovering from an injury at Camp Dennison Ohio, just outside of Milford Ohio, he writes his sister in fear of being forgotten and maybe not making it out of the war alive. His sister now a Robert's by marriage keeps these letters and passes them onto her daughter Lydia Roberts. Lydia my great grandmother passes them onto her daughter Neva Bartlett Malaby who in turn passes them onto her daughter Margaret Malaby Tyler. Margaret getting up in years passes them onto her daughter Carolyn Tyler who in turn passes them onto me Harold E. Malaby, Jr. since they know I am interested in family history. The following are copies of the original letters passed down since 1862 during the US Civil War.

The Originals will be placed this summer, August 2015, into the Camp Dennison War Museum here in Camp Dennison Ohio for future generation to enjoy. http://www.ohiodar.org/
