Betty Foree was born in Katemcy, TX and moved to Abilene, Taylor County, TX with her mother and brother when she was about 4 years of age. She started school in the Abilene Public Schools and then moved to various schools in Graham, Breckenridge and Jacksboro, TX through the 4th grade and then moved back to Abilene. She graduated from Abilene High School in May 1959 and enrolled in Texas Womans University, Denton,TX in September. She majored in nursing and minored in psychology/ sociology and graduated in May 1963. At the start of her junior year in June, 1961, she enlisted in the Army Student Nurse Program and received the rank of PVT. In December of her senior year (Dec 1962), she was discharged from the WAC and received a commission as a lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps.

Her military career took her to various stateside Army posts including Fort Benning (GA), Fort Riley (KS), Fort Dix (NJ), Fort Hood (TX), Fort Bragg (NC) and Fort Sam Houston (TX). Her overseas assignments included Okinawa in 1966-67 and Ethiopia in 1970-72.

In 1969-70 she returned to school and attended full time at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans graduating in August 1970 with a
Masters of Science in Hygiene. Her final military assignment was in San Antonio, TX at the USA Academy of Health Sciences where she taught Army Community Health Nursing at the Masters level for a three year period. During this time she was an Adjunct Assistant Professor on the Tulane University faculty. Betty retired from the US Army in 1981 with a rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Following her retirement, she built a home on Lake Granbury near Granbury, TX and was joined by her mother, Modessa Foree, and grandmother, Melissa Pirtle, in her new home. After Melissa Pirtle died in 1985, Betty gradually returned to full time employment, finally returning to nursing as a school nurse in 1987. She worked as a school nurse in Granbury for two years and then was employed as the school nurse supervisor for Kennedale ISD in Kennedale, TX, for the next 17 years.

In May 2006, Betty retired from school nursing to enjoy retirement life in Granbury. She has a number of hobbies, including genealogy, boating and singing. She has sung in church choirs since her teen years and continues this activity today.
