Charley "Garnell" Johnson, 84, of Jesup, GA, died Sunday, January 29, 2012, at his residence after an extended illness.
The Wayne Co., GA, native was a member of the Jesup Primitive Baptist Church and a retired Sheet Metal employee with Godwin Heating and Air of Jesup, GA. He enjoyed white perch fishing, working around his farm and being a part of nature.
He was predeceased by a son: Perry A. Johnson, his mother and step-father: Zona Mae & Edward F. Maxwell, a sister: Cleo J. Delgado and a brother: Oscar M. Johnson.
Survivors are his wife of 65 years: Viola Waters Johnson of Jesup, GA, a son: Brennon (Maria) Johnson of Jesup, GA, a brother: Jerome (Bonnie) Johnson of Glennville, GA, a sister: Wanda Johnson of Sumter, SC, grandchildren: Brennon G. (Allison) Johnson, Jr. Bradson H. (Tracy) Johnson, Charley R. (Amber) Johnson, Dr. Abbie J. (Brian) Scarborough, Benjamin S. (Tiffany) Johnson, great-grandchildren: Michaela Johnson, Perry Johnson, Sydney Johnson, Kailey Johnson, Brynnan Johnson, Karley Johnson, host of nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday from the church prior to services.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2012, from the Jesup Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Vernon Eckleberry and Elder Roland Waters officiating.
Interment will be in the Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons and nephew: Brent Johnson, Brad Johnson, Ben Johnson, Charley Johnson, Brian Scarborough, & Rev. Fred Edward Griffis.
