Marguerite was the oldest child of Scottish immigrants George Lawson and Anna McCreath Lawson. In 1915 in Longmount, Colorado she married Arthur White, a farmer. They had three children: Alice, Francis and Florence. Arthur died in 1920. Francis and Florence were adopted by Margueite's sister in Washington. Later in life Marguerite moved to Washington to live with the extended family.
