WINFIELD, IOWA
THURSDAY, JULY 21, 1930--PAGE 1 COL. 2.

MRS. SNYDER, 93, DIES AT HOME OF MRS. W. H. DEAL

Funeral Held at Mount Union this Morning
Buried in Trinity

WAS OLDEST CITIZEN

Mrs. Mahala Doty Snyder, who has been making her home with her
daughter, Mrs. W. H. Deal, for the past six years, passed away,
Tuesday morning about ten o'clock, following an illness of several months. She was 93 years, 5 months, and 7 days old. She was born in Ohio, Feb. 22, 1837, the daughter of Ephraim and Mary Doty. She came to Iowa with her parents in 1844 and settled at Mr. Vernon. She married James Snyder at Mt. Vernon, Nov. 27, 1858 or 9* (*this line difficult to read from folded paper*) and the new home was established at Danville, where they lived for five years. Later,
the family moved to a farm near Trinity south of Mr. Union where the children grew to manhood and womanhood. The husband,James
Snyder, passed away Nov. 20, 1893.
Mrs. Snyder joined the M. E. Church in early girlhood and her faith has been maintained through-out all these years.
There were six children, born to Mr. and Mrs. Snyder, namely Mrs. W. H. Deal of Winfield, Mrs. J. H. Forbes of Crawford, Neb., Chas. W. Snyder of Fairfield; Edwin J. Snyder of Emporia, Kan.; W. D. Snyder of Mt. Pleasant; H. T. Snyder of Mt. Union. There are also 21 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great, great-grandchild, who survive.
The funeral was held at the M.E. Church in Mt. Union this morning at ten-thirty o'clock, with the pastor Rev. Ludwif, and Rev. J. C. Behrens of the Winfield church, in charge, M. C. Barton of Winfield; funeral director.
The passing of Mrs. Snyder removes from this community perhaps the
oldest of its citizens. She was on of the brightest, happiest old ladies we have ever known, and held her interest in life, her activity among family and friends as a woman of twenty years younger. Until her last illness, Mrs. Snyder was scarcely ever such. Her stamina was very unusual.
During all these many years a resident of this and the Mt. Union
communities, Mrs. Snyder gathered about her many, many friends who
took lots of interest in her and marveled at the way she kept her youth. She was pleasant and kindly, and her presence upon this earth will be greatly missed.
She has lived a long while far more years than the average. Her work was done, and her eternal rest now comes to her well earned.
