SAMUEL S. BITNER
Samuel Sylvester Bitner, son of Samuel and Mary Wolgamott Bitner, was born March 4, 1863 near Glasford in Timber Township, Peoria County, Illinois, and departed this life at Tri­vo1i, Ill., on April 10, 1931 at the age of 68 years, 1 month and 6 days.
He was the youngest of four sons, all deceased. His father was killed in the Civil War, in the battle of Kenesaw Mt. After the death of his father he went to live with his grandparents, after whose death he spent several years in the Soldiers Orphan home at Normal. Ill.
He was married to Martha Colvin on August 2, 1883. She having preceded him in death some five months ago.
To this union were born eight children all of whom survive, except a baby girl who passed away in infancy, and Philbert whose life was suddenly taken in Washington, D. C., some two years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Bitner have always lived in this section of Illinois with the exception of 13 years spent in Pittsburg, Kansas.
He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of the Farmington Camp.
He leaves to mourn his passing the following children, Charles F. of Tri­voli, Emmet of Peoria, Howard of California, Mrs. Blanche McAlister of Trivoli, Mrs. Mabel Sandall of Maquon, and Ray of Middle Grove, also 27 great grandchildren, besides a host of rel­atives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Smithville Presby­terian church, and interment in Smith­ville Cemetery.
