Walter O. Backstrom, 78, of 157 N. Third St., West Newton, died Saturday evening in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born May 25, 1895, in Collinsburg, son of the late Oscar W. and Christina Gren Backstrom.
Mr. Backstrom was a retired employe of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and belonged to Christ Lutheran Church West Newton, Brotherhood of Railroad Trainman and Loyal Order of Moose No. 31, West Newton.
Surviving are his widow, Jessie Everett Backstrom, three sons, Charles O. Backstrom of Uniontown, David R. Backstrom of Stanford Heights, WV and Robert L. Backstrom of West Newton; one sister, Mrs, Edla Pearson of Youngstown, OH; and five grandchildren.
Friends are being received at Richard F. Dodson Memorial Home, West Newton.
