BATES, Austin D., age 75, of Flushing, passed away Tuesday January 24, 2012 at Fostrian Manor of Flushing. Funeral service will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Chaplain Steve Hittle officiating. Burial at Tallman Cemetery, Walhalla MI at a later date. Those desiring may make contributions to one's choice.

Austin was born March 5, 1936 in Flint the son of the late Orin M. and Rosa Bell L. (Schmuhl) Bates. He married Mabel E. Roe in Frankenmuth on April 4, 1985.

Austin loved fishing, dogs, and was an avid Detroit tigers and Lions Fan.
He served his country in the Navy during the Korean War.
Mr. Bates retired from G.M. Flint Engine Plant with 30 years of service.

He is survived by his wife Mabel of Flushing; sister, Gerry Smith of FL, several nieces and nephews and many special friends. Friends may share an online tribute on the obituaries page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
