Bessie Lee Duncan Mabry Kennedy Truett was the third of twelve children and second eldest of seven girls born to Daniel Harris Duncan and Morning Star Fox , both from North Carolina.

She became the wife of Samuel Walter Mabry (1890-1915), the son of Alexander Mabry and Mary Lillian Bickle. They were married on 12 Jun 1910 in Cleburne County, Arkansas and had one daughter, Roba Bramlett Mabry Starnes.
Secondly, she was the wife of Aaron Benjamin Kennedy (1884-1954) of Arkansas. They were married 16 Sept 1916 in Shiloh, Arkansas and had four daughters including:
* Cecile Evelyn Kennedy Thompson 1918–1989
* Edith Juanita Kennedy Shackelford 1921–2004
* Golda Joan Kennedy Luque 1926–2003
* Deva Alberta Dee Kennedy Dellacroce 1928–1999
Thirdly, she was the wife of James Oscar Truett (1877-1973) of Tennessee, who had been previously married to Maggie Lee Adair (1859-1959). They were married about 1960 and had no issue.
