Gr Grandma Mollie was Cherokee. Her mama brought her after a short stay with a pastor and his wife named Tapley to the Holland farm where she was a worker. The Tapley's gave her their last name but her mama was a Faircloth. Mollie was not adopted legally. When the lady of the house, Elizabeth Holland died, she married Jordan Holland. They began having more children to add to the five conceived by the first union. Mollie's life was not easy but she had a strong bond with her children. She was a good cook and knew many remedies learned from her people if a doctor was not near by. Mollie was a member and baptized at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church but later started attending Conners Baptist Church which was a missionary Baptist. In later years while staying in Atlanta, Savannah and areas of Florida with her children and their families, she could find her way to any place she needed to go. And she could take a little and seem to make enough to around during the Depression Years. Like her people, the Cherokees, Mollie spoke when she had something worthwhile to say. She was known for sitting quietly for hours in a chair and looking out into the distance with a half smile on her face....as if she could see something very special that only she could see. Even though I was young when she died, she had made an impression on me and I was always intrigued by her. She took on life with courage and contributed more than I am sure she ever realized. I love her still and am ready to tell others that the indian blood that flowed in her is mine as well. One of her favorite hymns was 'Leaning on the Everlasting Arms'. I love that one, too. One day I am confident we will share time in Heaven. Know until then you are remembered.
