One HARMAN A. KUNNECKE was born 1833 in Hanover, Germany. (1850 Census)

A marriage license was issued 8 July 1859 in Darke County, Ohio. Harman married 14 July 1859 in Darke County, Ohio to Elmira Dunham, daughter of James Dunham & Anna Sands. (FamilySearch Marriage Record & Research of ASH)

They were enumerated in the 1850 Census residing in Brown Township, Darke County, Ohio.

Harman enlisted to join in the Civil War on 21 March 1864 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. He was mustered in on 24 March 1864 and was Private in Co. M, 89th Ohio Volunteer Calvary.
He was wounded and died of wounds at Liberty, Virginia. One record indicates that his body was not found and that he was likely buried there in a group grave. He joined Dunham relatives who also enlisted. Some returned home while others died during the war.

Elmira (Dunham) Kunnecke made application for pension in January 1865. (FamilySearch: Application # 78813; Certificate #58647) It is not known if Elmira remarried or died, as nothing more has yet to be found concerning her life.

Harman was mentioned in a letter home to Margaret Elizabeth Slonaker, wife of James Dunham, who was serving in the Civil War. Elmira Dunham, sis/o James Dunham, was the wife of Harman.
