Marilyn Schroeder (1939 - 2012)

Marilyn Goodson Schroeder, 72, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at a nursing home in Bedford. Service: A service celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Hurst, 1801 N. Norwood Drive, Hurst. Interment: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: Family visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home.

Marilyn was born April 18, 1939, in Atoka, Okla., the eldest child of Edward and Gladys Goodson. She married Charles Schroeder in Oklahoma City on July 18, 1958, and in 1963 moved to Texas, where their home has been in Hurst for the past 49 years. A member of First Baptist Church of Hurst, Marilyn spent many years serving as co-teacher of the singles class with her husband, and was employed by the church in secretarial and hostess duties. Marilyn also spent many years volunteering at HEB Hospital, later working there in guest services. She loved serving and caring for her family, friends and even strangers. She opened her heart and home to others and was always ready with a smile, a hug and a delicious home-cooked meal whenever and wherever it was needed. She was loved by all who knew her -â€" beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister, cherished friend and supportive co-worker.

Survivors: Her husband of 53 years, Charles; daughter, Sonya Tichenor and husband, Mark; daughter, Sheri Young; daughter, Shelley Henderson and husband, Willie; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters; one brother; many other family members; and a multitude of friends.
