She was born Oct. 1, 1925, in Henderson to Willie Bell Butler and Bessie Mae Taylor Butler. She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church, was a mother of the church and served on the Ministers and Wives committee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, the Rev. James R. Smith Sr., who died in 2003; one daughter, Pearl Louise Smith, who died in 1999; four sisters; and two brothers.
Survivors include three daughters, Hallie Marshall and her husband, Grant, Mary Dixon and Lillie Pruitt and her husband, Robert, all of Henderson; three sons, William Smith and his wife, Gayle, and James R. Smith Jr., both of Henderson, and Robert A. Smith and his wife, Rita, of Paducah; one stepdaughter, Sondra Francis of Evansville; two sisters, Janice Hall and Guinevere Green and her husband, Tyrone, both of Henderson; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater Norris Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Henderson. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery.
Friends may call after 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
