Henry and his twin sister, Hilda, were born to Hans & Helga (Olson) Aasby of Loomis Twp., Hyde County, South Dakota. He grew up on the farm with his four brothers and four sisters. He helped his father on the farm until being called into the military in WW I. While he was away, Hilda died during the flu epidemic of 1918, at age 22. He entered the army March 2, 1918, and served with te Medical Corps until 1919.

Returning home, he resumed farming and stock raising with his father. He held offices in both school and township boards. He was a Hyde County Commissioner from 1921 to 1924.

On January 17, 1925, he married Irene Vermillion of Holabird at Mitchell, South Dakota. They were the parents of one son, Harold, born November 18, 1925 at the Elsie Sammons Maternity Home in Highmore.

Henry continued to farm with his father until 1928, when his parents retired and moved into Highmore. Henry and Irene took over the home place, where they continued to live until 1963, when they retired and built a new home in Highmore.

They traveled to Mexico, Canada, and visited all but three states. Henry and Irene celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary January 17, 1975.
