The son of Michael & Eleanora (Adams) Beamesderfer, in 1860, he was a laborer presumably living in Heidelberg Township, Lebanon County. He stood 6' 0" tall and had light hair and gray eyes and known as "Harrison."

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg August 30, 1864, and mustered into federal service there September 1 as a private with Co. F, 200th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was hospitalized at Fortress Monroe, Virginia (whether from illness or wounds is as yet undiscovered), and discharged by special order June 19, 1865.
