Alva Simpson Sr. dies at Santa Fe

"Alva Simpson, Sr., a U.S. Forest Service official for 30 years, died on Monday at St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe at the age of 88. He had been in the hospital for a week. Mr. Simpson had resided in Santa Fe since he retired in 1948. He was born in Loveland, Colo., and attended the University of California. His Forest Service career included a stay in Albuquerque and he eventually became assistant U.S. forester in charge of range management at Washington, D.C. After he retired he joined his son, Alva Jr. in United Western Mineral Corp. which discovered seven uranium deposits in Ambrosia Lake and two in Utah. He was chief of the lands section. Survivors besides his widow in Santa Fe and his son are four daughters, Mrs. C.A. Mayfield, Mrs. Dorothy Howard, and Mrs. Robert Dobyns, all of Santa Fe; and Mrs. William E. Dickerson of Phoenix, Ariz., five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Episcopal Church of Holy Faith in Santa Fe. Burial will be at Santa Fe."
