He was a composer, singer, pianist/organist, and director. Originally from New York, he lived in Denver for a time before settling in Butte, MT in 1906. He performed and organized concerts and other events in the region while selling pianos and sheet music.
He moved to Salt Lake City in 1909 to sell sheet music (good sight-readers were required for demonstrating new music to customers), but returned to Butte before the end of 1911.
He moved the family to Spokane some time after July of 1922.
He was an active member of the Elks.
He married Helen before 1910, and they had four children: Helen Dolores, Jack F. Jr., Mary Jane, and Elizabeth "Betty".
