LLOYD A. "LADDIE" DESKINES
Lloyd "Laddie" Deskines, age 71, of Cottonwood Falls, died Monday, December 19, 2011, at his home in Cottonwood Falls. A graveside memorial service, at Hillside Cemetery, in Toledo Township, will be held at a later date when the weather is nice.
Lloyd, the son of Harden J. and Ella McMillian Deskines, was born November 23, 1940. in Emporia, KS. His father worker for Cities Service near Matfield Green and he graduated from Matfield Green High School and attended one year at what is now Emporia State University. He was a member of the Matfield Green baseball team. He and Joyce Stuck were married November 6, 1959, in Kansas City, MO. He worked for Bill Baker Dairies at Clements, Hoch Dairy, and Braum Dairy. He was a supervisor at Dolly Madison for 15 years, and worked at Bunge, as a soybean extruder, for 19 years, when he retired. He owned and operated Deskines Roofing and Construction for 20 + years. He was a barber, also. He was an active member of the AFL-CIO for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Scott Deskines of Emporia; a daughter, Cynthia Deskines Rausch of Cottonwood Falls; three grandchildren: Jessica Rausch, Justin Rausch, and Stephanie Deskines; and two great grandchildren: Kaitlyn Kocher and Saul Walgren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Steven Deskines on May 12, 2000.
