Doris Woodley Moser of Boerne, Texas died January 18, 2012. In death she joins her parents, Glenn Elmo Woodley and Glenn Mangum Woodley; her sister, Sally Julia Woodley, her sister, Betty Woodley Knight; her brother, Henry Woodley; her husband, Charles (Chuck) Moser; her grandson, Ryan Charles Rogers; and her niece, Rebecca Mangum Knight.
Doris Moser was born February 2, 1923 in Sabinal, Texas. She grew up with her extended family in Sabinal and Uvalde. She was valedictorian of Sabinal High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin as mathematics major. In 1942 Doris married Chuck Moser who was a Captain in the United States Army stationed at Hondo, Texas; theirs was a happy marriage for 53 years. Doris was a devoted mother and grandmother to her daughters and their families always with letters, gifts, and interest in their lives. Throughout her life, Doris enjoyed reading everything on the New York Times bestseller list and much more, traveling, playing bridge, china painting, and writing. She wrote two books, Take Time to Remember which is a memoir of her family's life and Texas Courthouses which are accounts of the oral and written histories of all 254 Texas courthouses which she and Chuck visited and photographed. Doris and Chuck enjoyed attending 44 Elder-Hostels throughout the United States, Canada, and Great Britain. In their retirement years they traveled to Europe.
Doris with her husband, Chuck, was a part of the Abilene, Texas community and Abilene High School football in the 1950's and 1960's. Later moving to Bryan, Texas, Chuck and Doris were a part of Texas A&M football and its community. Doris was an involved member of the United Methodist Church and the PEO sisterhood wherever she lived. Doris enjoyed her wonderful friends in McAllen, Abilene, Bryan-College Station, and Boerne throughout her life.
Doris Woodley Moser is survived by her two daughters, Jane Moser Drum and her husband, Richard of Boerne, Texas and Glenn Moser Rogers and her husband, Jim Rogers of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas. Her grandchildren are: Allison and her husband, Jay Angell; Megan and her husband, Randy Cooley; and Tim and his wife, Savannah Rogers. Her great grandchildren are Caroline, Catherine, and Jayne Angell, Noah and Henry Cooley, Jamey Rogers, and Penny and Nataliya Rogers. Her niece is Elizabeth Clack and great nephews, Bradley and Jamie Ward of Dallas, Texas.
The last years of Doris Moser's life were spent at Morningside Ministries at the Cibolo House and the Kendall House in Boerne, Texas. The family of Mrs. Moser wishes to thank her caregivers for their love and care of our "Nana D".
There will be a family graveside service for Doris Woodley Moser at the Sabinal Cemetery in Sabinal, Texas on January 21 with the Rev. Leighanne Brechin of First United Methodist Church-Sabinal officiating. There will a family memorial service at First United Methodist Church-Boerne at a later date.
