Elizabeth, daughter of Charles and Sarah Smith, was born April 30th, 1818, and passed to rest and life eternal at her home, five miles southwest of Jamestown, August 18, 1903, aged 85 years, 3 months and 19 days.
The duration of her sickness was short. On the evening of the 9th of August she was stricken by a second attack of paralysis, which caused her death nine days later.
She was born in Greene county, Ohio, and spent her entire life near the place of her birth. In 1839 she was married to Silas Bales with whom she lived happily till separated by his death in 1882. Of this union two children were born, Mrs. Sarah McKay, who resides near New Burlington, and Mrs. Martha Hollingsworth, deceased. Seven grandchildren are left to mourn their loss.
She was converted at the age of 14 and joined the M.E. church, in which she was always an active and earnest worker, never tiring to sing or speak the praises of Jesus.
The funeral services, conducted by Rev. Cundy, were held at the home. Interment in the Jamestown cemetery. A Grandson.
