Elkhart - The family of the Rev Ray P Pannabecker will receive friends from 2 to 9 pm Thursday at Bethel College, Everest Rohrer Fine Arts Building and one hour be­fore the funeral at 1 pm Friday 1 at the Everest Rohrer Chapel. Dr Dennis Em­brecht, Dr Norman Bridges and Dr Albert Butler will officiate, followed by burial at Olive West Cemetery.

Rev Pannabecker, 87, of 28070 CR 24, died at 4:45 pm Sunday (June 10, 2001) at Valley View Health Care.

He was the second president of Bethel College in Mishawaka and headed the school, run by the Missionary Church, for 10 years. He also served 10 years as chaplain of Hubbard Hill Estates. He re­tired June 26, 1994, the day be­fore his 81tst birthday after 60 years in the ministry.

Rev Pannabecker was born in Elkton, Mich on June 27, 1915, to Jacob N and Luna M (Plowman) Pannabecker.

He graduated from Elkhart High School and Asbury College, attended Goshen Biblical Seminary and Michigan State Universiry and received an honorary doctorate tom Asbury Theological Semi­nary in 1954.

He married Dorotha M Hygema in Fort Wayne on June 16, 1935, and she survives with three daughters, two sons, 11 grandchildren and 15 great­grandchildren.

Four brothers, Lloyd, Floyd, Karl and George, are deceased.

Rev Pannebecker served as president of Bethel a College from 1959 to 1974, district superintendent of the North Central District of the Missionary Church Headquarters and as pastor of a number of churches, including Brenne­man Memorial Missionary Church in Goshen from 1950 to 1955 and Oak Grove Missionary Church in Nappanee from 1945 to 1949.

He was a member of Brennamen Memorial Missionary, Kiwanis of Mishawaka, the Mishawaka Garden Club, the South Bend – Mishawaka Chamber of Commerce and the South Bend YMCA.

Memorials may be given to Bethel Collage or Hubbard Hill Estates.
