Ethelyn (Ethel) Woodruff Smith
Ethelyn (Ethel) Woodruff Smith, age 85, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2001. Ethel was born Sept. 13, 1916 in Moab, Utah to Leonard Asa Woodruff and Bertha Wilcox Woodruff.
She married Frank Noel Smith on July 9, 1937 in Moab, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Throughout her life she faithfully served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her greatest calling in life was to help raise four of her grandchildren, Terry, Karen, Michael and Robert, all of whom looked to her not as a grandmother, but as a mother.
She spent most of her life caring for others. She was loved by all for her caring nature and her special sense of compassion. Her enthusiasm for life was evident. She loved taking long walks, lemon meringue pie, a good cup of coffee, and spending time with her sister, Rae Angell.
Ethel is survived by one son, John Wayne (Susan) Smith; son-in-law, Elmo Johnson; and tend grandchildren: Terry (Lenny) Back, Karen (Kevin) Beckstead, Michael (Yvette) Smith, Robert (Kathy) Smith, JoAnna Smith, Jeremiah (Ivy) Smith, Shawn Smith, Tyler Smith, Jeff (Yvonne) Johnson, Garth (Judy) Johnson; 21 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Jack Woodruff and three sisters: Edna Rae Angell, Carroll Holdorf and Zella Powdrill. She was preceded in death by her husband, brothers, sisters, and one daughter, Lenna Renae Johnson.
Ethel's family would like to extend a special thanks and their appreciation to the staff at Heritage Bennion Care Center for the TLC they gave to her during her stay there.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2001 at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Provo City Cemetery.
