Reuben Clark was born in April 2, 1782 in Middletown, CT (Vital Records of Tyringham). He was the son of Francis Clark Jr. and Mary Johnson. (A Genealogical record of one branch of the Heath, Clark and Cone family, p. 25). He married Nancy Chandler in 1811 in Wilmington, VT. Reuben and Nancy Clark had two children: Nancy who married George Bushnell and had nine children and John who served in the Civil War.

They lived for a time in Madison County, NY where he had purchased land from Simeon Chandler in 1836. (Madison County, NY Land Record). They arrived in Kendall County in Illinois in 1840 and were some of the earliest settlers there. In 1841 he purchased 40 acres of land for $1.25 an acre. (Illinois Public Land Purchase Records) In 1850, Reuben, listed as Rowlen and Nancy were living in Lisbon Township with their son John, age 23. They are listed as owning their own farm (http://genealogytrails.com/ill/kendall/1850_misc.htm). In 1870 he was living with his daughter and son-in-law in Lisbon Township, occupation retired farmer and was 88 years of age. Source: 1870 US Census Record
