The serious illness and sudden death of W K Burgess came as a shock to his family and friends. He was laid to rest at Hale's Chapel cemetery February 25, 1937. Funeral services were conducted by Rev Eugene Smathers. Mr Burgess was 82 years of age and is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs Sarah Cole, Sparta; Mrs Alice Swafford, Biglick; Mrs Anna Mooneyham, Pikeville; 2 sons, Henry, Winesap; W V, Biglick.
Mr Burgess was a successful farmer and had lived many years in Burgesstown and was a member of the Baptist church. He also has one sister, Mrs John Campbell; one brother, P D; 23 grandchildren and 3 greatgrandchildren; and a host of friends who will miss him.
