N.C. Wilburn
GREENVILLE — N.C. was born Dec. 31, 1916, in Commerce to the parentage of John Thomas Wilburn and Mary Thomas Bonner.
He was a member of the Griffin Chapel CME Church and later joined the Disciples of Faith Bible Fellowship. Until he retired, he was employed as a cook by Texas A&M University-Commerce.
He departed this life on Jan. 14, 2012. He leaves to cherish his memories a daughter, Helen Ruth Byrd (Uriah) of Commerce; a son, John Taylor Wilburn of Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Sadie Wilburn of Commerce; 10 grandchildren, Antionette Wilburn, Anthony Wilburn, Shirlean Wilburn and Stephanie Wilburn, all of Los Angeles; Willie Thomas (Mary) of Greenville; Rosebellah Hatley (Bennie) of Commerce; Uvette Byrd of Greenville, Mattie Lee (Kenneth) of Los Angeles, Ralph Hines, Jr. of Commerce, Taylor Johnson of Dallas; 22 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas Wilburn and Mary Elmer Bonner Wilburn; seven brothers, W.H. Wilburn, Bert Wilburn, Melvin Wilburn, Robert Lee, D.C. Wilburn, John Thomas Wilburn Jr., Cleo Wilburn and one sister, Mary T. Greer.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Mount Moriah Baptist Church with Rev. Mitchell Scott as eulogist. Burial will follow at Grundy Memorial park.
Visitation will be today from 1 to 6 p.m. at Grace & Mercy Funeral Home in Greenville.
