From the July 23, 1953 Friday Caller, page 1: CIVIL WAR WIDOW DIES AT 94 Mrs. Mary M. Hopwood, age 94, the widow of Mote R. Hopwood, a civil war veteran, and perhaps one of the oldest residents of the county, died Monday morning [July 20] at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Freeman Cooper, rural route Clayton. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Clayton Baptist church with burial in the old cemetery east of Clayton. Mrs. Hopwood is survived by the granddaughter Mrs. Cooper and a grandson, Robert Hubbard, Memphis, Tennessee, four great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. Arrangements were by Leon A. Hall of Plainfield.
