Emma, wife of Richard P. Houghton,
departed this life at her home on the
Carthage road, after a protracted illness,
at the age of 67 years and 28
days. Mrs. Houghton had long been
a resident of this town and had gained
the respect of all in the community.
She is survived by her husband, four
daughters, Mrs. Martin Baxter, of
West Carthage; Mrs. William Thompson,
of this town; Mrs. Ruby Ferguson
and Miss Emma Houghton, of Carthage;
three sons. Willie Houghton, of
Lowville; Otis Houghton, of Great
Falls. Mont., and Oscar Houghton, of
Carthage; also two brothers, Henry
and Otis Rumble, of Montague. Her
funeral was held Saturday from the
Congregational church at Deer River,
Rev. D. A. Abrams, pastor of the
Baptist church, officiating. Interment
was made in Swinburn cemetery.
