Benjamin Franklin Carter, 74, of Mt. Vernon, former Olney resident a number of
years ago, died recently at Jefferson Barracks Hospital at St. Louis, according to word received in Olney.
Funeral services were held at the Free Will Baptist Church at Mt. Vernon with burial in Black Oak Ridge Cemetery at Mt. Vernon with IOOF lodge rites at the grave.
Mr. Carter lived in Olney from 1922 until 1925 and was employed as buttermaker and creamery operator for the Gassman Ice Cream Co. While living here he was active in several local fraternal orders.
Since returning to Mt. Vernon, he had operated a dairy until his retirement. He
was a World War I veteran. He was a deacon in the Free Will Baptist Church, a member of Marion Lodge No. 13, IOOF at Mt. Vernon and a member of World War I Barracks No. 113 at Mt. Vernon.
He is survived by his wife, Victoria, two sons and a daughter.
