Obituary John Grant Norman

John Grant Norman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thom. Norman of this city died Friday afternoon July 19th in Birmingham, Ala., as a result of an injury received on Wednesday, July 17th, being struck on the head by a falling rock in the ore mines where he was employed. He was twenty-eight years of age and was a member of the Episcopal Church. He leaves a young wife and two small children. His remains were interred at McAwain cemetery in the suburbs of Birmingham on Saturday, July 20th. The ritualistic funeral service of the Episcopal Church were conducted by Rev. Bryant, assisted by another minister. A very large number of friends and relatives were present.
Grant, as he was familiarly known and called by the older residents of this city spent his boyhood days here and his friends and acquaintances will be greatly pained on hearing of his untimely death.
He was confirmed at about the age of seventeen years by Bishop Thos. Gailor and soon after his confirmation went to Birmingham, Ala. Where he has since resided. He was married there to Miss Annie Bearden on the eighteenth of September 1901, three children were born to them, the youngest of whom died about two months ago.
He was a man of untiring energy and despite the fact that his health for the last two years had been very poor he labored hard all during this time to provide comfortably for his wife and children, never once trying to shirk his responsibilities.
Those of his relatives who survive him need have no fear but that one so faithful to duty and to those who were committed to his care, will receive the richest reward of peace and happiness that the giver of all perfect things can give.
Mere words of sympathy and condolence are inadequate to dispel the great sorrow of the heart broken wife, the mother and father and brothers and sisters. Yet we give them with the hope that they may afford some comfort and help to lighten their great burden.
Mrs. Thos. Norman left this city immediately upon receiving word of her son's serious accident and was with him during the short time he was alive. Messrs Thos. And William Norman and Miss Lilly Norman attended the funeral.
