Son of Robert Glasgow and Catherine Anderson.

Francis Thomas Glasgow was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia, one of nine children of Robert Glasgow- who was one of three surviving sons of Arthur Glasgow, the patriarch of the Glasgow family in Virginia. Arthur and his brothers and mother came to Virginia about 1766. The family took possession of a 5000 acre land grant in what was then Augusta and Orange Counties.

Francis Thomas Glasgow graduated from Washington University (later Washington and Lee) in 1847. He read Law in Richmond for two years, then was employed by his uncle Gen. Joseph Reid Anderson (his mother's brother) as Superintendent/Managing Director of Tredegar Iron Works, Richmond, Va. during the Civil War.

Mr. Glasgow was born at "Green Springs" and raised in Rockbridge County, Virginia.
Early in the morning of January 29, 1916, he died at his home, 1 West Main Street, Richmond.

He married Anne Gholson on July 14, 1853, and they had ten children together.

Father of the Pulitzer prize winning author, Ellen Glasgow.
