Abe Duryea, 103, Succumbs Saturday; Rites At Arcadia Mon.

Abram Cole Duryea, better known as Abe, was born at Yonkers, New York, July 13, 1864, and died at a Broken Bow rest home following a lingering illness July 15, 1967, at the age of 103 years and two days.

His parents were Albert Duryea and Mary Cole Duryea. He came to the Arcadia vicinity at the age of 18 and this was his home until 1960 when his age compelled him to be confined to a rest home. He first married to Mary Spangberg in Valley County on his homestead near Arcadia on August 4, 1888. She died September 13, 1915. His second marriage was to Minnie Martin at Ansley on August 11, 1926. She died February 1, 1950. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Daisy Reider of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and Mrs. Bernice Lindsey of Glendale, Calif.;two sons, Abe A. Duryea of Alliance, and Everett Duryea of Beatrice; two step-sons, George Martin of Lexington and Willard Martin of Lincoln; one step-daughter, Alva C. Layton of Yakima, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Besides his wives he was preceded in death by one son, John Duryea; one daughter, Mrs. Lillie Russell; one step-son, Floyd Junk; two infant daughters; three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held at the Arcadia Congregational Church with interment in the Arcadia Cemetery.
