Everette Mack Pierce, 70, of Marion, died Saturday, July 6, 1996 in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Salem, Va.

Mr. Pierce was a native of Smyth County, a member of the East End Baptist Church, a member of the Francis Marion V.F.W. Post #4667, a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #39, and a member of the American Legion Post #18.
He was a veteran of the U. S. M. C., serving in WWII, and a recipient of several medals, including two Purple Hearts.

He was a former Deputy Sheriff of Smyth County. He was retired from the Burns International Security Service as Captain of the Security Division at the Brunswick Defense Corporation, Marion. He was also a farmer for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Pierce, Marion; two daughters, Mrs. Stephen (Amanda) Hagy, Marion, Amy Pierce, Marion; two sisters, Ruth Weaver, Roanoke, Jane Riddell, Dallas, Texas; one brother, Charles Pierce, Smith Mountain Lake; one grandson, Andrew Hagy; very good friend, H. M. (Slick) Gullion.

Funeral services for Mr. Everette Pierce will be conducted Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Burial will follow in the Troutdale Cemetery. Francis Marion V.F.W. Post #4667 will serve as pallbearers and render military rites at the graveside. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Leonard, Bill Price, R. David Bradley, Fred Hagy, Kelly Murray, Baskin Johnson, Fred Edder and John Edder. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Barnett's Funeral Home. Barnett's Funeral Home of Marion is in charge of arrangements.
