Rebecca Ankeny was the daughter of George Ankeny and Susan Kathleen Brollier. She married Dr. Meshac Shaw on August 28, 1849 in Ankenytown, Knox County, Ohio. Their children were Martha Ellen, Mary Belle, Florence Almeda, James Buchanan, Susie May and Bruce Ankeny Shaw.

By 1870, the family had moved to Floyd County, Iowa and in 1900, they were living in Butler County, Iowa. The 1900 Census Record indicates only three of their seven children were still living.

Rebecca died October 17, 1900 in Butler County, Iowa. At the time, Rebecca was seventy-five years of age and both she and her husband were living with their widowed daughter, Susie May [Shaw] Shafer, a school teacher.

Dr. Meshac Shaw died July 26, 1910 and the couple is laid to rest alongside each other in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene, Iowa.
